Traditional dishes handed down in Aomori
Because Aomori is the northernmost tip of Honshu and is surrounded on three sides by the sea, there is an abundance of fish and shellfish to be caught. A delicacy called "Nanako Hacchin" consists of 15 kinds of seafood that people living in Aomori have loved to eat since ancient times. The dish is made with 7 kinds of fish eggs, such as sujiko and tarako, and 8 kinds of delicacies, such as sea cucumber and white fish, and has long been a popular ingredient in Aomori. Local dishes made with these ingredients are prepared in a kaiseki style. It goes very well with sake.
For breakfast, you can also enjoy the "Miso Shellfish Grill," a local dish made with miso soup and egg.
