Nanbu Magariya

Old House Restaurant Nanbu Magariya

Enjoy traditional dishes from Aomori such as "Nanako Hacchin Kaiseki" (Nanako Hacchin Kaiseki), which features 15 seafood dishes handed down to the people of Aomori, and "Kaiyaki Miso" (seashell grilled miso) for breakfast in this warm, old-fashioned house space.

Traditional dishes handed down in Aomori

Because Aomori is the northernmost tip of Honshu and is surrounded on three sides by the sea, there is an abundance of fish and shellfish to be caught. A delicacy called "Nanako Hacchin" consists of 15 kinds of seafood that people living in Aomori have loved to eat since ancient times. The dish is made with 7 kinds of fish eggs, such as sujiko and tarako, and 8 kinds of delicacies, such as sea cucumber and white fish, and has long been a popular ingredient in Aomori. Local dishes made with these ingredients are prepared in a kaiseki style. It goes very well with sake.

For breakfast, you can also enjoy the "Miso Shellfish Grill," a local dish made with miso soup and egg.

Old house in the southern part of Aomori Prefecture

In the southern region, which was said to be home to great horses, horses have been treated as if they were members of a family. The Nanbu Magariya, which was relocated from an old house with a strong sense of its culture, is built in an L-shape, with a main house and a stable connected. Enjoy your meal in the tasteful space, with the old hearth remaining.

"BUNACO" crafts from Aomori

We adopted "BUNACO" for lighting fixtures. "BUNACO" is made by winding thinly taped beech trees on top of each other to form a shape. The beautiful grain and modern design have attracted attention overseas as well, and the company exhibited at the Maison et Objet, the world's top interior design fair, held in 2016. The texture of beech wood and the simple, stylish design create a calm atmosphere befitting the Nanbu Magariya restaurant, which serves kaiseki cuisine.
