This digital detox stay is a one-night two-day program that concentrates on activities through which you can experience the nature and local culture of Kyoto while being away from digital devices such as computers or mobile phones.

This parlor game, popularized by Kyoto aristocrats in the 14th century, involves warming aromatic wood to enjoy its scents. At HOSHINOYA Kyoto, guests receive high-quality agarwood and traditional tools to draw out the aromas.

The Sasaoka branch of the Misho School of kado--or ikebana--blends tradition with creativity to develop practices that properly convey the school's traditions, but with a contemporary touch. These lessons, led by current master Ryuho Sasaoka, involve learning the basics of kado as well as ways to apply the art to one's daily life. Since the lesson plan is designed based on the participant's needs, all levels of participants--from beginners to advanced learners--are welcome.

Participants depart HOSHINOYA Kyoto at the break of dawn--when mists still shroud the premises--to meditate at a nearby temple, in a hall that echoes with Buddhist chants and slowly fills with the day's first rays of sunshine.
