A rare glimpse into another Kyoto

With the bustling Togetsu Bridge teeming with tourists behind us, it takes a leisurely 15 minutes to embark on a private boat and journey up the tranquil Oi River. You're beckoned into a realm enveloped by the serenity of canyon and trees. Welcome to the enchanting haven known as Oku Arashiyama ("Inner Arashiyama").

As if transcending time and space

The tranquility deepens as the boat progresses. Gradually detached from the hustle and bustle, you feel a sensation akin to transcending time and space.

Evolve a tradition

This is an area in Kyoto where strict landscape regulations were imposed. We are challenging landscape design to develop traditions while maintaining traditional landscapes such as buildings and natural environments.

Place of serenity

As you step off the boat and ascend the cobblestone staircase, the "Water Garden" unveils itself. Musical instruments adapted from Buddhist ritual items and the sound of the waterfall, restored from the remnants of the garden from 100 years ago, show the serenity of the place.

Gardener's commitment

As you proceed through the grounds, you'll come across flagstone passages, each with a unique design for every guest room. Using stones gathered from all over the country, the gardeners have crafted a distinctive path, reflecting their unique expression of "Shin-Gyō-Sō".
