Peeling back the plaster during renovations unveiled original red-brick walls, crafted by inmates under master artisans. Their unique shapes and colors have aged into a rich patina, infusing the space with layers of history. The architecture employs the "English bond" style, inherited from Keijiro Yamashita. This robust design of alternating brick lengths brings both strength and deep expression.
Arched windows near the high ceiling cast deep shadows unique to this prison architecture, connecting you to the sky. To fully immerse your senses in the shifting light, the living and dining areas are intentionally left without roll screens. Tracing the sunlight across the red brick, time slips away.
