(Autumn festival held: October 11 - November 4)

Kumamoto Castle is known not only for its majestic appearance, but also for its autumn foliage in fall. The contrast between the stone walls and the autumn leaves is like a painting. The historic castle walls are in harmony with nature, which turns red and yellow, and attracts visitors.

Highlight 1: Giant ginkgo tree, the symbol of Kumamoto Castle

The ginkgo tree is said to have been planted by Kiyomasa Kato. The golden leaves adorn the castle and the view is a must-see.

Highlight 2: Illuminated castle interior

Bamboo lights” are installed in various places in the castle.

The warm light illuminates the place and you will experience a different charm from the daytime.

Highlight 3: Kumamoto Castle above the clouds

Kumamoto is rich in underground water. For a limited time only, Japan's largest artificial sea of clouds will appear using water from Kumamoto Castle's wells.
