Ryukyu Bingata Stay
Experience the rich and deep charm of Bingata, a traditional handicraft developed through trade in the Ryukyu Dynasty and Okinawa's natural environment.
Learn about the history of Bingata, which developed as a stage costume, and learn directly from Bingata craftsmen while dyeing a large cloth called Uchikui. In the blooming spring, when we can feel the origin of the vivid colors of Bingata, we will enjoy the beautiful world of Bingata nurtured by the nature and history of Okinawa.
Bingata, originally worn in Shinto rituals, evolved into stage costumes as Ryukyu culture thrived. Its colors and patterns express emotions, status, and the unique beauty of Ryukyu sensibilities.
In Okinawa, uchikui furoshiki are dyed with bingata patterns, featuring traditional motifs of celebration, prayer, and local plants. Skilled craftsmen guide the creation of these intricate designs.
Bingata represents color and pattern. On the Bingata Garden Tour at HOSHINOYA Okinawa, visitors explore dye plants in the garden, then experience Okinawan culture and craftsmanship at the Gathering Hall, adorned with bingata designs.
